Gender Identity Disorder

Gender Identity Disorder refers to the individual’s incorrect self-perception of their gender, which affects their cognition, behavior and social roles. For most people, there is no conflict between their gender identity, and their body and the gender-specific social roles that they adopt in their daily lives; they have an “un-conflicting” gender identity. Others experiences a conflict between their gender identity, their body, and the gender-specific social roles that they choose (or are required by others) to adopt. Gender Disorders/Dysphoria of Childhood is also common.

At the Metromale clinic, the aim is to enable people with gender identity disorders to achieve lasting personal comfort with the gendered self in order to maximize overall psychological well-being and self-fulfillment. Dr.Karthik Gunasekaran adopts a multidisciplinary patient centred biopsychosocial approach to these conditions.
